THE biggest group of Filipino and Chinese businessmen in the Philippines has warned the Senate impeachment court to think twice before it decides to allow the opening of bank records of Chief Justice Renato Corona because it may lead to a bank run and loss of trust in the banking system. The Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Inc. (FFCCCII) over the weekend asked senators to exercise caution before granting the request of the House prosecution to subpoena the bank documents of the Chief Justice. According to an FFCCCII official who talked to The Manila Times on condition of anonymity, opening Corona’s bank accounts will destroy the trust in the banking system in the country. |

Monday, 06 February 2012 |
Private sector economists projected inflation rate will remain manageable toward 2014, with mean forecasts falling well within the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) target. Based in the results of the BSP’s survey of private economists for December 2011, inflation is expected to be within the 3 percent to 5 percent target range for both 2012 and 2013. The mean inflation forecasts eased to 4.2 percent and 4.1 percent in the fourth quarter, respectively, compared to 4.3 percent and 4.5 percent in the previous quarter, which were estimated to be at 4.3 percent and 4.2 percent. “Analysts noted that the early part of 2012 could lead to increased inflation pressures due to agricultural constraints as a result of the damage wrought by Typhoon Sendong. Nonetheless, the continuing weak global economic growth could help temper domestic inflationary pressure,” BSP Deputy Governor Diwa Guinigundo said. |
