Vice President Jejomar Binay FILE PHOTO MAJORITY of Filipinos remain very satisfied with Vice President Jejomar Binay, but not with Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. and former chief justice Renato Corona, according to the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey. The poll results, first published in BusinessWorld on Thursday, showed that Binay retained his “excellent” net satisfaction rating of +70 (79 percent satisfied, 9 percent dissatisfied). In contrast, Enrile’s rating fell from a “very good” +56 to a “good” +48 (64 percent satisfied, 16 percent dissatisfied); Belmonte’s, from a “moderate” +18 to a “neutral” +8 (36 percent satisfied, 28 percent dissatisfied); and Corona’s, from a “poor” -28 to “bad” –44 (16 percent satisfied, 61 dissatisfied). The survey agency said that like their leaders, the net satisfaction ratings of the Cabinet, Senate, House of Representatives, and Supreme Court also plunged. The Cabinet’s rating dropped by seven points from a “moderate”+26 to a “moderate” +19 (42 percent satisfied, 24 percent dissatisfied); the Senate’s, falling by nine points from a record “very good” +58 to a “good” +49 (65 percent satisfied, 16 percent dissatisfied); the House’s, dipping by 10 points from a “very good” +40 to a “good” +30 (50 percent satisfied, 21 percent dissatisfied); and the High Court’s, sliding by 14 points from a “moderate” +27 to a “moderate” +13 (43 percent satisfied, 30 percent dissatisfied). The SWS considers net scores of +70 and above as “excellent;” +50 to +69, “very good;” +30 to +49, “good;” +10 to +29 “moderate;” +9 to -9, “neutral;” -10 to -29, “poor;” -30 to -49, “bad;” -50 to -69, “very bad;” and -70 and below, “execrable.” In response to the poll results, Binay said that he is “grateful and humbled by the people’s approval” of his work. He added that he is “personally committed” to help President Benigno Aquino 3rd pursue his reform agenda and make the government “more responsive to the needs of the people.” The latest SWS survey, conducted from May 24 to 27, used face-to-face interviews of 1,200 adults in Metro Manila, Balance of Luzon (Luzon without Metro Manila), the Visayas, and Mindanao and had margins of error of +/-3 percent for national percentages and +/-6 percent for area percentages. The polling firm said that the survey was non-commissioned and conducted on its own initiative. WITH A REPORT FROM RITCHIE A. HORARIO |
